Special Music Let There Be Peace Carmelita Abenoja, solo
composer, Kennedy; arr. Knight
(originally sang by Frank Patterson, Ireland’s Golden Tenor)
Let there be peace for today and forever.
May troubles cease in this fair land we love.
With hope and faith, days of fear will be ended.
When God hears the nation(s) praying, let there be peace….
Peace to tend the fields of golden grain, watch the sky and sea.
Walk in sunshine or in rain; unafraid and free.
Peace in our time and for our children’s children,
God of our fathers grant it; Let there be peace.
Message Jesus as a Template for Transformation: Rev. John Song
Part 3)“Deny Yourself”
The Seven Week Lenten Sermon Series continues with Part 3) “Deny Yourself.” This commend is the first of three commands that Jesus required for our transformation. St. Irenaeus, the 2nd century Greek Bishop of Lyon, France, said, “Christ became what we are so we could become what he is.” We will do a deep dive into what it takes to “deny yourself” in order for us to become more like Christ.
“Salvation is transformation into Christ”
~ St. Maximus the Confessor,
the 7th century Christian monk and theologian in Constantinople, Turkey
“What happened in the life of Christ will happen in us.
In our transformed lives, God lives in us without us losing our own being.”
~ Raimon Panikkar, Christophany: The Fullness of Man, Orbis Books 2004
