The Rev. Sandra K. Olewine (66), assistant to the bishop in the California-Pacific Conference, has been elected a bishop by the Delegates of The United Methodist Church’s Western Jurisdiction in Spokane, WA on July 12. She received 84 votes out of 85 valid ballots cast. She needed 57 or at least two-thirds of valid ballots to be elected. Bishop Sandra Olewine is assigned to the Cal-Nevada Annual Conference. Her four-year term of appointment begins Sept. 1.
In addition, our very own Rev. Kristin Stoneking was elected & consecrated as Bishop at the 2024 Western Jurisdictional Conference.
As of Sep. 1, our current two Bishops retired. Our Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño and our very own Bishop Karen P. Oliveto who became the first gay bishop to be elected in our denomination.
