Children’s Time: “Learning to Speak the Truth in Love” Pastor John
Special Music: What a Wonderful World
Solo by Febe Abenoja Avitua on ukulele
By Robert Thiele & George David Weiss
This song was originally sung by Bob Thiele and first recorded in 1967, released in 1968, by Louis Daniel Armstrong (1901-1971), a trumpeter and a vocalist.
“What a Wonderful World” is an invitation to appreciate and celebrate the simple things in life: an anthem for peace, love and all that’s good in this world. It was written and intended as a reassuring antidote to the mounting racial problems facing America in the late 60’s. This song was featured on the soundtrack of the movie “Good Morning, Vietnam,” a film set in 1965, 2 years before the track was written.
George David Weiss specifically wrote the song for Louis Armstrong as he was inspired by Armstrong’s ability to bring together people of different races.
Message “Practicing Courageous Love” Rev. John Song
This message is about learning how to cultivate love with bravery, clarity, and authenticity.
Do you have a voice in your relationships, or do you sometimes hold back from saying what you really feel? What if there was a safe way to describe what your true feelings are, without upsetting your partner? Would you want to know how?
Well, there are ways to avoid those pregnant silences of insecurity, anger or disappointment. After all, they just get in the way of the love you seek in a relationship.
The word “courage” comes from the Latin “cor”, which means heart. Vibrant, truth-filled intimate relationships take courage. And a whole lot of it! What I do know is that when suppress truth in relationship, it comes out as drama. It takes courage to speak up about something we need when we aren’t sure how our request will be received… courage to admit our mistakes and apologize in a genuine way… courage to share the fullness of our hearts with someone else, knowing that all life is vulnerable and uncertain.
May you know such courageous love that keeps relationship vibrant, healthy, authentic, and trustworthy.
