Worship During Ordinary Time ~ Holy Communion Sunday
Sunday, September 4, 2022, 10 am
“I am a hole in a flute that God’s breath moves through. Listen to this music.”
~ Hafiz, the 14th century Persian poet
Message “Let Your Life Speak” Rev. John Song
This Sunday we are going to take a break from the Icon sermon series to use the Labor Day to examine if we are living the life that God has called us to live and explore the meaning of the word “Retirement”.
Do we have the whole “work to retire” thing all wrong? Why aspire to retire if working sparks joy? Labor Day, our national holiday to rest and appreciate the achievements of American workers, is actually the perfect time to discern what matters most — responding to your calling. We are an unfurling chrysalis, readying to emerge with new stories and next chapters.
George Gray
By Edgar Lee Masters
I have studied many times
The marble which was chiseled for me
A boat with a furled sail at rest in a harbor.
In truth it pictures not my destination
But my life.
For love was offered me and I shrank from its disillusionment;
Sorrow knocked at my door, but I was afraid;
Ambition called to me, but I dreaded the chances.
Yet all the while I hungered for meaning in my life.
And now I know that we must lift the sail
And catch the winds of destiny
Wherever they drive the boat.
To put meaning in one’s life may end in madness,
But life without meaning is the torture
Of restlessness and vague desire—
It is a boat longing for the sea and yet afraid.
