First Sunday of Advent
Hanging of the Greens Service
Celebration of Holy Baptism
Sunday, November 28, 2021, 10 am
This Sunday, Nov. 28, is the First Sunday of Advent with the lighting of the First Advent Candle of Hope which kickstarts the Advent/Christmas season. There will be the Hanging of the Greens ritual. While children and youth help decorate the live Christmas tree, the congregation will sing a medley of carols that Mike has chosen to enjoy.
All children will receive the Advent Calendar to help them countdown for Christmas. As children open each window everyday starting Dec.1st, they will be surprised by what they find hidden behind windows with pictures and scriptures.
Our Choir will sing “Whispering Hope” for Special Music under the direction of Mike Locke-Paddon and the accompaniment of Marina Thomas.
Pastor John will give a message using the famous painting of “Christ at Heart’s Door” by the American artist, Warner Elias Sallman, who painted in 1942 based on Revelation 3:20, “if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.” The image of Jesus standing outside of the door knocking is a spiritual metaphor that has a deep and profound meaning for the Advent season.
Message: “I Am Standing at the Door Knocking” Rev. John Song
