Special Music Beautiful Isle Over Somewhere David Rios, trumpet
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
David Rios is a local musician who was written about in the Santa Cruz Sentinel for playing inspirational music on the trumpet at the Seacliff State Beach. I serendipitously met David Rios when he was playing the trumpet in the setting sun at the Seacliff State Beach in Aptos. I was mesmerized and drawn to the beauty and power of his trumpet. Well, we’ll get to hear his music this Sunday.
David sees himself serving God through his trumpet. His paternal grandfather, Reverend Jesús Ríos, was the pioneer for the Confraternidad Hispana Bautista de California in the 1940’s. His maternal grandfather, Filiberto Alvidrez (graduating from the Methodist Seminary in Mexico City), was an ordained minister in the 40’s, early 50’s.
Several years ago David began arranging hymns out of the hymnal in cooperation with Christians living in Cuba with the first CD recorded in 2009 and now more songs are being arranged. He plays many traditional hymns as well as all kinds of music on his trumpet for services and venues.
Message “Is it really true, One Bad Apple Spoils the Whole Bunch?” Pastor John
You have heard the familiar saying, “One bad apple spoils the whole bunch” or “One bad apple spoils the whole barrel.” This idiom means it only takes one person, thing, element, etc., to ruin the entire group, situation, project, etc. Refers to the fact that a rotting apple can cause other apples in close proximity to begin to rot as well.
Well, is it really true or should it be? Often one bad experience can stop us from experiencing a whole bunch of wonderful experiences. Come and learn how we can limit this kind of thinking that prevents us from living the “abundant life” or the “fullness of life” that Christ has come to give us.
John 10:20
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
Old Irish Blessing
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and abundance bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons
bring joy and deep satisfaction.
