Special Music Talking with My Father Brandon & Trisha Kett
by Dougie Maclean
“Talking with my Father” by 69-year-old Scottish singer/songwriter Dougie Maclean, expresses how he feels a connection to his departed father. The chorus of the song also shows his love of Scotland’s countryside where he was raised by his dad:
In this place, where life’s heart thunders,
In this place, where time holds still,
in this place of harmony and wonder
and values not of gold fulfill.
Message: “Boys Get Everything, Except the Thing That’s Most Worth Having” by Rev. John Song
I have come to believe the conditions of modern boyhood amount to a perfect storm for isolation and loneliness. All the old deficiencies and blind spots of male socialization are still in circulation — the same mass failure to teach boys relational skills and emotional intelligence, the same rigid masculinity norms and social prohibitions that push men and boys away from intimacy and emotionality. With men, there is a huge thing about mental health and shame because you’re not supposed to be weak. You’re not supposed to be broken. And the screen-addicted, American culture has only exacerbated the condition of men and boys.
So what do men and boys who seem to have everything but lack that one thing most worth having? And what can be done to help them find a healthy expression of their deepest healthy masculinity we all need today? Come and find out!
