Message                “Pope Leo’s Encyclical on A.I.”                 Rev. John Song

Today, billionaires and trillionaires in the technology industry—many of whom are driven primarily by profit rather than by spiritual or ethical concerns for human well-being—are largely shaping the development of artificial intelligence with little oversight. As a society, we are sleepwalking into this new reality, often unaware of its potential dangers and the profound ways it could impact humanity.

Pope Leo’s Encyclical on artificial intelligence offers a timely and much-needed moral voice to address these concerns before the technology advances beyond our ability to guide and control it. In this presentation, we will explore Pope Leo’s teachings on A.I., examine the ethical challenges he identifies, and consider why his message deserves our careful attention.

“Work is love made visible.”
~ Kahlil Gibran

“There’s more to life than merely increasing its speed.”
~ Mahatma Ghandi

“The more we become truly human, the more we participate in the divine.”
~ Teilhard de Chardin, 20th century French Jesuit priest,
paleontologist, theologian, and philosopher

Genesis 11:1-9 (The Message)

At one time, the whole Earth spoke the same language. It so happened that as they moved out of the east, they came upon a plain in the land of Shinar and settled down.

They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks and fire them well.” They used brick for stone and tar for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower that reaches Heaven. Let’s make ourselves famous so we won’t be scattered here and there across the Earth.”
