The Origins of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt (published in 1951) is a foundational work in political philosophy and modern history. Arendt, a German-Jewish philosopher and Holocaust survivor, explores how totalitarian movements emerged in the 20th century and what conditions made them possible. Arendt argues that totalitarianism is not just tyranny or dictatorship, but a unique form of rule that aims for total control over every aspect of life, including thoughts and beliefs.
Currently our academic institution, press freedom, freedom of speech, are being threatened with the erasing of our nation’s history. More than ever, we need to courageously stand with the truth in defense of the bedrock of our constitutional democracy.
“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is to make people for whom
the distinction between fact and fiction… no longer exists.”
~ Hannah Arendt, the author of The Origins of Totalitarianism, 1951
“Don’t pee on my leg and try to tell me it’s raining.”
~ Judge Judy
“It is impossible for God to lie.”
~ Hebrews 6:18
“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil,
a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”
~ Proverbs 6:16-19
“The truth will make you free.”
~ John 8:32
