Message Breath Work: Rev. John Song
Part 2) “Breathing God”
What is the Meaning of the Hebrew word “Ruach”? Ruach (pronounced roo-akh) is the Hebrew word for spirit, breath, or wind. When spoken, the word engages one’s breath and lungs. The first mention of Ruach in the Bible is in the very first chapter of Genesis.
Genesis 1:1-2
In the Beginning
“1In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, 2 the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.”
And it was the breath of God that breathed life to the first human.
Genesis 2:7
Creation of Human
“Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
This is a continuation of the sermon series on “Breath Work”. To me, Breath Work is one of the most divine forms of prayer. This is the prayer of breathing between you and God with no intermediaries. Literally, your conscious breathing becomes the connecting link between you and God. Breathing prayer is having direct, immediate access to God. You are literally breathing God’s life-giving Spirit. Let the breath do its work. Let the divine do its work in you.
Breath Work can give you a path to reconnect with your inner knowing and facilitates a union of your mind, body, heart and soul. From here you embark on a sacred journey of discovering yourself and coming into alignment with God’s deepest desire for your life.
“I am a hole in a flute that God’s breath flows through. Listen to this music.”
~ Hafiz
“The most important and useful thing to be is to be a hollow bone.”

“You have to go out of yourself so that God can come into you.”
~ Meister Eckhart, German theologian & mystic (1260 – 1327)
