Message: America, the Land that I Love: by Rev. John Song
Part 5) “I Hate, Therefore I Am”

We will examine the phenomenon of scapegoating mechanism and how it’s being played out in America today. We will bring out into daylight what has been hidden from the world since the beginning of humankind.

Romans 13:8-10
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no evil to the neighbor.
Hence love is the fulfillment of the Law.”
Matthew 5:43-48

Love Thy Enemies
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Luke 23:34
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
“When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.”
~ Chris Boeskool

3 Ls: Last, least, lost are ripe for scapegoating.

“First, they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out- Because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
~ Martin Niemöller, Germany, 1946

“When you commit an act of violence, you are basically disconnecting yourself.
You are putting yourself outside the circle of love and life.”
~ John Malloy, Native-American Indian
